| 内容記述 | 19世紀の中頃、グラスゴーの公衆衛生は最悪の状態にあった。埋葬地に隣接していたグラスゴー王立病院は熱病病棟や外科病棟を拡充し、1860年代には感染症を消毒によって防ぐことに成功した。1885年にグラスゴー王立病院看護師長に就任したレベッカ・ストロングは、急速に進歩する医学に適合した看護師準備訓練学校を1891年に設立し、看護師資格認定試験を第3者の手で行うことを提唱した。 折しも、ロンドンでは看護師資格認定試験及び国家登録をめぐる賛否両論が看護界を2分していた。認定登録推進派の英国看護協会と反対派のナイチンゲールは激しく対立したが、結局女王の勅令によって1887年から3年間続いた闘いに終止符が打たれた。この論争はまさに看護教育の歴史的分岐点を象徴する出来事であった。ストロングの看護教育刷新は英国看護協会側の立場に立っていた。看護教育にとって最も優先されるものは国家資格認定試験合格なのか、あるいは高度な技術と測りがたい人格的資質の育成なのか。そこには今日の看護教育のあり方を再考させる問題が提起されている。 |

| 内容記述 | About the middle of the 19th Century, Glasgow’s hygiene was the worst condition in the UK. The Glasgow Royal Infirmary close to the burial places expanded the fever ward and the surgical department, and succeeded in preventing infective diseases by an antiseptic. Rebecca Strong who had become Matron of the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1885 established the preliminary training-school for nurses suitable for rapidly developing modern medical science in 1891 and proposed a recognized test of qualification conducted by a third person. On the other hand, the nursing world in London was divided into the two over the pros and cons of a recognized test and nurse registration. While the British Nurses Association promoted the test and registration, F. Nightingale opposed to them and harshly criticized the promoting movement. Their battle continued for 3 years from 1887. Finally Imperial ordinance gave the battle an end in 1891. R. Strong’s renovation of nursing education was on the place where the British Nurses Association stood. Their battle was a symbolic event in a turning point of the history of nurse education. Which is more important as the objective for nurse education, “to pass qualifying examination” or “to develop the art and character suitable for nurses”? Today, this question must be also the primary problem which makes us reexamine what the nursing education at college should be. |
