The purpose of this study is to clarify the current situation of Nursing faculty education within Japanese nursing universities using literature, and to also consider issues which are arising.
A literature search was performed using the Ichushi—Web and CiNii Articles and, 40 articles deemed suitable for the research purpose were selected as subjects.
As a result of analyzing 40 documents, the following became clear: (1)Currently, efforts to develop teaching skills at nursing universities consists of; study sessions for sharing educational practices, case study sessions for improving practical skills, but the organizational system is still insufficient. (2)Nursing university trainees have little opportunity to learn about education. They have feelings of worry, and struggle because of lack of knowledge or experience in education. This further highlights the current situation of lack of preparatory education for nursing university trainees. (3)There is no education and research system in place, including support for learning opportunities for teachers to obtain degrees and improve their research skills, and it is recommended that trainees help themselves and establish an organized system.
Regarding the issue of developing nursing university training, it is important and necessary to train nursing university trainees in order to develop nursing science and maintain and improve the quality of nursing services in the future, in addition to the development of organizational systems, it is important to provide support for individual nurse educators to learn from their own experiences and form their own competencies as nursing college faculty, and the future task is to establish a method to do so.
