The fact of the nursing system implies the position and the role that ought to be taken by nurses in the Hakuai-Sha（the Philanthropic Society）.\n　　For the purpose of these, Primary sources（e.g. daily reports, journals, resolutions and so on） of the Hakuai-Sha have to be examined.\n　　According to this examination, it developed that, in Hakuai-Sha, there had been two kinds of nurses: the kango-nin（unskilled male nurses）and the kanbyo-fu（unskilled female nurses）. And it revealed that the kango-nin and the kanbyo-fu had been employed not through any training courses of nursing. Making reference to the roles taken by each, the former had been charged with first aid especially at field hospitals in wartime, the latter had been employed for the purpose of nursing generally at hospitals in peacetime. The JRCS instituted the training facility of nursing in 1890, which was arranged only for female, not for
