Semi-structured interviews were conducted for approximately one hour with 10 nurse managers recommended as those practicing excellent nursing administration. Qualitative inductive analysis identified the following areas of work experience that allowed nurse managers to develop and elucidated the skills acquired through these areas: nurse managers acquired skills “to involve people” through the “experience of accomplishing a change”; skills “to lead subordinates to be autonomy” though the “experience of training subordinates”; skills “to build trust” through the “experience of changes in personnel due to post or position assignments”; and skills “to grasp the true nature of problems” through the “experience of encountering
